One essential piece of equipment is the air tank, which comes in various materials like carbon fiber and aluminum. Regardless of the type of tank you use, incorporating a tank cover into your setup can offer multiple benefits, ranging from protection and durability to enhanced control and even aesthetics. Here's why it's crucial for paintball players to use tank covers:
Many players prefer using carbon fiber tanks for their lightweight nature and efficient performance. While these tanks are incredibly functional, they are susceptible to dents and damage if they take hard hits or fall during a match. A tank cover provides an added layer of protection, preventing potential damages to the topcoat and thereby extending the tank's life.
Both carbon fiber and aluminum tanks often have coatings that are slippery against the material of most paintball jerseys. When you're in the heat of the game, this lack of friction could potentially disrupt your aim or movement. Tank covers, made from materials like neoprene or silicone, offer a surface that enhances grip when the tank is pressed against your shoulder. This gives you an extra element of control that could make the difference between a win and a loss.

Paintball Tank Cases
Cases are extremely useful in paintball, especially for players who find themselves traveling in cars or airplanes to play in different tournaments around the country. If you tend to stay local, it may still be a good idea to get a paintball tank case in order to keep the case from banging into your other equipment and becoming damaged. Different cases have the same idea–put something hard around your paintball tank to keep it from getting damaged (or from damaging) other equipment. What is the purpose of a paintball tank cover?
The purpose of a paintball tank cover is twofold. The first is to protect the air tank from damage during the game. This most often happens when attaching/detaching the air tank from the marker and while suffering a fall during the game. The paintball tank cover helps absorb the impact of the tank being dropped or fallen on. The tank covers also provide a grippy surface so that you can comfortably shoulder the paintball gun and fire it with one hand while reloading. Paintball tanks tend to slip on jersey material but neoprene and silicone tank covers don’t slip.
Is it okay to leave a tank in a paintball gun?
In theory, you could leave your tank attached to a paintball gun. However, neither tanks nor paintball guns are meant to be holding full pressure indefinitely. To get the most usable life out of your paintball marker (and for easier transportation), we recommend that you remove the air tank from your paintball marker after every paintball session.
How do you store a paintball tank?
One of the best ways to store your paintball tank is with a moderate amount of air pressure within the bottle–around 1000 psi.
