Airsoft Magazines

Unlike paintball guns which are usually hopper-fed, nearly all airsoft guns are magazine-fed. Both pistols and rifles are magazine-fed airsoft guns, however, rifles have greater capacity. Airsoft magazines are, like real firearm magazines, specific to a given make and model of airsoft gun and are therefore not universal. Before you buy an airsoft magazine, check to make sure that it will fit your specific airsoft gun.

Speed loaders, such as the Umarex Universal CO2 Magazine BB Speed Loader, are a great addition to airsoft magazine purchases. These speed loaders eliminate the need to load your airsoft magazine one BB at a time. They work by using a spring mechanism to push the BBs into your airsoft magazine and take only a couple of seconds to load as opposed to a minute or more by loading them manually.

Frequently asked questions by airsoft players…

Is it okay to drop an airsoft magazine?

While some of the stress of real combat is mimicked on the airsoft field, it is not good practice to drop your airsoft magazine the way that real magazines can be “dropped.” Even real magazines shouldn’t be dropped when you’re at the range with your friends. Even in an airsoft firefight, we recommend taking care to secure your airsoft magazine after it’s out of BBs given the chance for damage and unsavory players who may pick it up and steal it from you. Airsoft magazines that hold CO2 are particularly at risk of damage given the additional pressure of the CO2 and the precision-milled components of CO2 magazines.

What are airsoft magazines made of?

Some airsoft magazines are made of plastic and others are made of metal. The material your airsoft magazine is made of will likely depend on the manufacturer and the manufacturer's recommendations.

Are airsoft magazines universal?

Airsoft magazines are not universal, with a few exceptions. Glock 17 magazines may fit into Glock 19 and Glock 19X pistols in both the airsoft versions as well as the real firearms. However, generally speaking, any “universality” exists within a certain brand. A Beretta magazine will not fit into a Glock or H&K airsoft gun.

Do airsoft mags fit real guns?

Please don’t try this as it may damage your magazine and your firearm. Real firearms are meant to shoot live ammunition which contains, among other elements, a powder charge, a primer, and a metal projectile. Without a charge, a real gun will not fire your airsoft ammunition. Real ammunition should NEVER be placed into an airsoft gun. Not only will it not shoot given the lack of a firing pin, but a negligent discharge of a real bullet in an airsoft gun could cause a catastrophic failure that will likely injure the user.

Should you store airsoft mags with gas?

We don’t recommend storing airsoft mags for any significant length of time with gas since this extra pressure will eventually wear out the O-rings on your airsoft magazine. The CO2 will also gradually escape from the magazine and you will have to replace the cartridge the next time you play. CO2 is cheap, so it’s better to take a $2 loss on a canister than have to replace an entire magazine.
